After breakfast we set out for Springfield, Missouri. The Route took us along country roads In beautiful sunshine. We explored the centre of the city on foot and then headed west towards Carthage. The Route west of Springfield is known as the "ghost town highway" because many of the towns now have so few residents.
Soon after we passed through Halltown we came upon the Gay Parita Station which was a re-creation of the service stations of the 1930s.
On the Road at Paris Springs Junction.
We then drove to Carthage where we had lunch in a 1950s-style soda fountain and then it was a pleasant drive to Joplin through some more small towns including Webb City
